Service is a core value not only of NVAPA and NPC, but each of our individual member groups. NVAPA is proud of our commitment to service through our partnership with Ellie’s Hats and Circle of Sisterhood. Read below to learn more about these organizations.
We are currently collecting gently used prom dresses/prom shoes, and NEW/UNOPENDED make-up. Please bring your donations to our April meeting or arrange pick-up with our Service Chair Casey. All donations are needed by April 22nd.
Ellie’s Hats is a 501 (c)(3), that provides to hospitals and clinics in Virginia and one location in West Virginia. But we also help in many other ways! We try to meet the needs of these families in the most heart tugging ways possible, whether fulfilling a local “wish”, helping families financially, providing little fun escapes for the kids and their families, etc. Whatever we can do to make these kids’ days a little brighter, we do it! The impact we have made in Northern Virginia in their 4 short years of existence is phenomenal! Our tag is "More Than Just a Hat". There are many reasons for our tagline. To the children who receive a package of hats it helps to brighten their day.
NVAPA is proud to support this organization by collecting hats and gift cards for families in need throughout the year. We have also given financial donations to Ellie’s Hats so they can continue with their mission to help kids with cancer.
Collectively, sorority women are one of the largest communities of college-educated women in the world while not even seven percent of the world’s population – men and women combined – has college degrees, and two-thirds of all illiterate adults are women. Standing together as one community, we are creating sustainable change by removing barriers for girls and women to have an equal chance for rewarding lives and livelihoods through schooling, the learning of a trade, or even certifications or degrees.
Whether founded in the 1800s, 1900s, or in the 2000s, sororities place a high priority on volunteerism and community engagement. Together, sororities donate millions of domestic dollars every year to help eliminate life-shattering diseases, raise awareness for important health issues, as well as tackle local issues like domestic violence against women, illiteracy among youth, environmental stewardship, and aid to persons with disabilities and those aging.
As the world is changing and boundaries are disintegrating, technology allows us to live in a global neighborhood. Today’s sorority women understand and appreciate others on a global scale, realizing they have the collective influence to make a difference for those experiencing marginalization and oppression both domestically and globally. As college-educated women, we know the value of achieving an education, and we believe that every girl in the world deserves the opportunity to go to school.
NVAPA has been proud partner of the Circle of Sisterhood since 2011. We are proud to be one of the first Alumnae Panhellenics to make Circle of Sisterhood a focus of our service and philanthropic endeavors. Every year we give a monetary donation to Circle of Sisterhood.
